we rented a house for a week in the summer, in California, and they charge a 10% bed tax... i thought only hotels can do that... not a privately owed vacation home.|||If the governing boy in that area decides - for any reason they please - then they can put a bed tax on the rental. If you look at the taxation scene within the last 5 years across this country you'll see that logic or just reasoning has nothing to do with taxation - it's mostly about pure greed.|||if the local community assesses the bed tax and these owners are in the business of renting they may be able to charge the tax, they probably have to pay it to the community
