I am considering renting an apartment for my long weekend in New York City. I found a rental that looks pretty nice and it's located in Little Italy? What type of area is that? How safe is it? Is it close to all the attractions?|||Yeah Little Italy is a safe neighborhood. There is very little of it left. Most of what used to be Little Italy is now Chinatown- the Italians moved out and the Chinese moved in. What remains is a very busy- touristy in the good sense area -full of etnic food stores ,restaurants and pastry shops. Little italy stays open very late on weekends 3:00 + A.M. It is centered on the N/S running Mulberry Street between Houston on the Notrth [ locally pronounced 'how-ston" ] and Canal on the South and use BWY as the western edge and Mott St. as the east. The Village is north and the Finacial disrict is south social clubs are for members only|||Manhattan's "Little Italy" is actually just a few streets located in the middle of China Town. It is safe & reasonably convenient to transport, but crowded & noisy - especially on weekends when all the tourists cram the streetside restaurants until late in the evening -- actually early morning.|||Little Italy is a cool area and duh, plenty of Italian food! Good pizza. I don't live in that area but I have gone there occasionally to eat. I think it's close to Chinatown. And it's a short subway ride away from great areas like Greenwich Village and Tribeca. Do you have a subway map yet?
